André Choquet, Associate at Millani, spoke at a session entitled "Emerging climate change regulation – How US & Canadian Property & Casualty insurers may be affected" organized by the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) in collaboration with the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA). He discussed drafted regulations by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Canada's Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI), as both Canada and the US look to each other in the coming months as they finalize their regulations and guidance.

André Choquet, Associate at Millani and Chair of the Climate Change & Sustainability Committee of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA), was a panelist at the Institute's annual conference. He discussed focus areas for actuaries worldwide to address climate-related risks and sustainability with fellow leaders of the association. They discussed what is needed for the actuarial profession to be recognized as a key contributor to solutions for the financial sector and the safety of social systems.

Is Water an Issue in Canada?

Water is an ESG topic that is increasingly catching the attention of the capital markets. Companies are becoming more aware of their water risk, water-specific investment frameworks have been created, and financial products in the blue economy are developing.

The survey found that 54% of respondents indicated that at least a portion of their organization’s endowment funds are managed under a responsible investment strategy.

30 financial institutions and pension funds representing approximately CA$1.2 trillion in assets under management issued today a joint Declaration of Institutional Investors on Climate-Related Financial Risks, calling on publicly traded companies in Canada to commit to enhanced disclosure on their exposure to climate change risks, and the measures they are taking to manage them. Millani is proud to be one of 13 organizations supporting in principle the Declaration.
