CGIC Quebec Branch CPD Webinar
Climate Change: The Role of the Board
With guest speakers: Milla Craig and Melissa Sonberg
April 20th, 2021

Oversight of ESG requires that directors have a plan in place to deal with the risks relating to climate change.
Each industry will face different risks and opportunities related to climate change and investors are demanding that various climate scenarios are assessed and strategies put into place to deal with the anticipated
consequences that might impact a company.

Failing to disclose these risks and the mitigation plan can result in shareholder withdrawal, higher costs, or no access to capital. For companies that are responding to the risks, a key consideration is how to transition from today to the future. The question becomes: Do directors understand the potential costs to the organization of moving to a lower-carbon economy?
